P6 Higher Chinese test papers

Higher Chinese at Primary 6 is an enriched mother-tongue programme for students who demonstrate stronger language ability. The paper-based assessments typically cover composition, comprehension, and language application. This page is for parents and students looking for past-year papers to practise with. The archive holds materials from various schools covering rounds such as CA1, WA1, SA1, WA2, and Prelim. Note that assessment formats and weighting may vary by school and cohort [CITE: weighted-assessment][CITE: subject-syllabus]. Use these papers to familiarise yourself with question styles and time management. They do not replace the official PSLE format but provide useful exposure to the level's demands [CITE: psle-format].

USING THESE PAPERS

How to work through P6 Higher Chinese papers

Start with the most recent papers first, as they are more likely to reflect current question trends. Work through one complete paper at a time, timing yourself as you would in an actual test. After finishing, check your answers thoroughly. For mistakes in comprehension, reread the passage to identify where you went wrong. For composition, compare your structure and vocabulary with model answers if available. A parent might look at the types of errors—are they vocabulary-based, grammar-based, or comprehension-based? That helps target revision. Do not attempt all papers in one sitting; spread them out over weeks. Use the early rounds (CA1, WA1) to build foundation before moving to SA1 and Prelim. Keep a notebook of new vocabulary and sentence structures you encounter. Revisit papers you struggled with after a gap of two weeks to see improvement. There is no need to master every single paper—quality review matters more than quantity.

COMMON QUESTIONS

P6 Higher Chinese questions

How is Higher Chinese different from Standard Chinese at P6?

Higher Chinese covers more advanced vocabulary and expects stronger reading and writing skills. The paper may include longer comprehension passages and a composition component with wider topic choices. Schools use their own assessments, and the format can differ from the standard Chinese paper [CITE: subject-syllabus][CITE: psle-format].

When should my child start practising past papers?

Start after Term 1, once your child has covered enough classroom content. Begin with CA1 or WA1 papers to gauge readiness, then move to SA1 and Prelim closer to the end of the year. Avoid starting too early, as unfamiliar material may cause frustration.

Are these past papers exactly like the PSLE Higher Chinese exam?

No. School papers reflect individual school assessment plans, not the national exam format [CITE: psle-format]. They are useful for practising question types and timing, but you should also refer to official SEAB sample papers for the actual PSLE structure.

What should I do if my child scores poorly on a paper?

Use the mistakes as a learning tool. Focus on the question types that caused difficulty—vocabulary, grammar, or comprehension. Practise those specific areas separately. Encourage your child to review the paper with a tutor or teacher to understand where they went wrong, rather than just moving on to the next paper.
