Sec 4 Additional Mathematics test papers

This page collects past-year papers for Sec 4 Additional Mathematics, a subject taken by students preparing for the O-Level examination [CITE: olevel-format]. The archive covers papers from 2022 to 2025, with most materials coming from school Preliminary Examinations. These papers are intended for parents and students who want additional practice beyond classroom work, especially in the months leading up to the national exam. Because the syllabus is updated periodically [CITE: subject-syllabus], these papers should be used alongside current teaching materials. The collection includes work from a range of secondary schools, but no single school’s paper is representative of the entire cohort’s experience.

USING THESE PAPERS

How to work through Sec 4 Additional Mathematics papers

To use these papers effectively, start with the most recent year available and work backwards. This gives you a sense of the current question style and difficulty. For each paper, treat it as a timed practice: set aside the same duration as the actual exam would allow, and work without interruptions. After finishing, mark the paper thoroughly. Pay close attention to mistakes in algebraic manipulation, graph sketching, and proof questions, as these are common areas where marks are lost. For every error, have the student rework the question from scratch, not just copy the correct answer. A parent should look for patterns: if the student repeatedly struggles with a topic like quadratic functions or trigonometry, that signals a need for targeted revision. Do not assign more than one full paper per week; the goal is quality reflection, not quantity. Use the mark scheme to understand how method marks are awarded, especially for multi-step problems.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Sec 4 Additional Mathematics questions

Are these papers still relevant if my child is using a newer syllabus?

The O-Level Additional Mathematics syllabus is updated periodically [CITE: subject-syllabus]. Papers from 2022 onward are likely to be relevant for current students, but you should check with your child’s teacher whether any topics have been removed or added. Use these papers for practice, not as a definitive guide to exam content.

How many papers should my child complete before the exam?

Quality matters more than quantity. One paper per week in the two months before the exam is a reasonable pace. After each paper, spend at least as much time reviewing mistakes as you did completing the paper. Rushing through many papers without correction is unlikely to improve results.

My child finds the graph sketching questions very hard. What should we do?

Graph sketching is a core skill in Additional Mathematics. Start by reviewing the basic shapes of common functions (quadratic, cubic, reciprocal, trigonometric). Then practise identifying key features: intercepts, turning points, and asymptotes. Use the past papers to find all graph sketching questions and work through them systematically, checking against the mark scheme for method points.

Can these papers predict what will come out in the O-Level exam?

No. School Preliminary Examinations are set by individual schools and are not official predictions of the national exam. They provide useful practice in terms of timing, question format, and difficulty, but the actual O-Level paper may cover different topics or question styles. Use them as one part of a balanced revision plan.
