P6 Science test papers

P6 Science past papers give you a direct look at the kinds of questions your child will face in the final year of primary science. These papers cover topics such as systems, cycles, energy, and interactions — all part of the national syllabus [CITE: subject-syllabus]. Because school-based assessments now follow weighted assessment guidelines [CITE: weighted-assessment], using real past papers helps you see how concepts are tested across different schools and terms. This page is for parents of Primary 6 students who want to prepare for school examinations and the PSLE. It organises papers by assessment round — from CA1 and WA1 through to Prelim — so you can work through the year in a structured way.

How to work through P6 Science papers

Start with the most recent Prelim paper from your child's school, or from a school with a similar academic profile. Work through one section at a time, not the whole paper in one sitting. After marking, focus on the questions your child got wrong. Ask: 'What was this question really asking?' and 'Did you miss a keyword like 'explain' or 'describe'?' For science, the method often matters as much as the answer. Look at how the model answer structures explanations — especially for open-ended questions. If a topic keeps coming up wrong, that tells you where to revise. A parent's job here is not to reteach the topic, but to notice patterns. Is your child rushing? Misreading the question? Leaving blanks? Encourage them to write something, even a guess. After a few papers, compare results across rounds — WA1 vs SA1, for instance — to see if progress is steady. For PSLE preparation, aim to do one timed paper per week in the two months before the exam, and review every mistake thoroughly.

COMMON QUESTIONS

P6 Science questions

Should my child do all 584 papers on this site?

No. Doing every paper would be overwhelming and counterproductive. Focus on the most recent 3–5 papers from a few schools with strong science programmes. Quality review of each mistake matters far more than quantity.

Are these papers still relevant given the new PSLE format?

Yes, but check the year. Papers from the last 3–5 years reflect the current emphasis on application questions and process skills. Older papers may still be useful for drilling factual recall [CITE: psle-format].

My child is strong in multiple-choice but weak in open-ended questions. What should we do?

Practice explaining concepts aloud first, then in writing. Use the marking scheme from past papers to see what a 'full mark' answer includes. Focus on keywords like 'because', 'so that', and 'therefore'.

How do weighted assessments change what I should look for in a paper?

Weighted assessments spread the grade across the year, so each paper matters [CITE: weighted-assessment]. Don't treat CA1 as a 'warm-up'. Every round counts toward the final school grade, which can affect streaming and recommendations.
