P6 English test papers

This page brings together past-year English papers for Primary 6, the final year of primary school in Singapore. At this level, English assessment typically covers Paper 2 components such as grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and synthesis, as well as Paper 1 continuous writing and Paper 3 listening comprehension [CITE: psle-format]. Students must also demonstrate oral communication skills in reading aloud and stimulus-based conversation. The papers here – from CA1, WA1, SA1, Mid Year, CA2, WA2 and Prelim rounds – are intended for parents and teachers who want to supplement a child's exam preparation with authentic practice materials. Because assessment formats and school weighting can change by cohort [CITE: weighted-assessment], always confirm with your child's school which components are used for final-year scoring.

USING THESE PAPERS

How to work through P6 English papers

To use P6 English papers effectively, begin with a recent Prelim or SA1 paper from the archive to establish a baseline – ask your child to complete it under timed conditions, then mark it against the provided answer key. Focus on the writing section: look at organisation of ideas, paragraphing and vocabulary range rather than just grammar. For comprehension, review how your child handles open-ended questions that require inference – these are often where marks are lost. Do not rush through multiple papers; one paper thoroughly reviewed is better than five rushed. After each paper, sit with your child and identify two patterns – one strength (e.g., 'you used good transition words') and one specific area to work on (e.g., 'let's practise identifying the main idea in the last paragraph'). Ask open questions like 'Why did you choose that answer?' rather than correcting immediately. For mistakes in vocabulary cloze, create a simple card with the word in a sentence; for synthesis, rewrite both the original and the transformed sentence side by side. A parent should look not at the score but at whether the child is making the same error across papers – that tells you where teaching is needed. If a round like Weighted Assessment 1 (WA1) appears in the archive, note that its format may differ from a full SA1 [CITE: weighted-assessment], so treat it as a checkpoint, not a full exam simulation.

COMMON QUESTIONS

P6 English questions

How are P6 English papers different from P5?

P6 English papers typically align more closely with PSLE format, which includes comprehension cloze, synthesis and transformation, and a more demanding continuous writing task [CITE: psle-format]. Vocabulary and grammar items assume a broader word bank, and comprehension passages are longer with more inferential questions.

Should my child practise every assessment round from the archive?

It is more efficient to focus on Prelim and SA1 papers from the most recent years first, as these are full-length papers. WA1 and CA1 papers may be shorter or cover only specific components. Using a range of schools helps expose your child to different question styles, but quality review matters more than quantity.

Why are some years missing from the P6 English collection?

That is a fact about this archive, not about Singapore schools. The collection reflects papers that have been contributed over time; gaps do not mean that no assessment happened in those years. Use the available years for exposure, but rely on your child's school for the complete syllabus coverage [CITE: subject-syllabus].

Can I trust the format of older papers for current PSLE preparation?

PSLE format has remained broadly stable in recent years, but small tweaks to the English paper (such as changes in the writing component weighting) do occur [CITE: psle-format]. Use older papers for skill practice – especially comprehension and grammar – but always check the latest MOE and SEAB updates for exact question types and mark allocations.
