P1 English test papers
Primary 1 English marks the start of formal assessment in Singapore. At this stage, the focus is on foundational literacy: phonics, basic grammar, simple comprehension and early writing. The papers in this archive come from school-based assessments – continuous and semestral – that vary by school in timing and format. This page is for parents who want to look at how English is tested across different schools without relying on any single school’s approach. Because the Primary 1 English syllabus is set by the Ministry of Education [CITE: subject-syllabus], the range of question types and content areas remains broadly consistent even though each school designs its own papers.

COMMON QUESTIONS
P1 English questions
Should my P1 child revise from past papers every week?
Not in Primary 1. At this age, regular exposure to English through reading and conversation matters more than timed practice. Use past papers occasionally – once every few weeks – to check how your child handles the format. Frequent drilling can cause unnecessary anxiety and may not build the underlying skills.
My child’s school does not give exam dates until late. Can I still use these papers?
Yes. The archive covers papers from many schools, and P1 assessments generally cover the same core skills. You can use any mid-year or end-year paper to gauge which areas your child finds easy or difficult, regardless of the exact exam schedule. Focus on the skill areas, not the exact test date.
Why are there multiple labels like CA1, SA1 and Test for the same year?
Different schools use different names for their assessment rounds. ‘CA1’ and ‘SA1’ refer to mid-year assessments in some schools, while others simply call them ‘Test 1’ or ‘Test’. These labels reflect school-specific naming conventions, but all of them assess the same foundational English skills from the P1 syllabus [CITE: subject-syllabus].
